PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — AdventHealth Dade City and AdventHealth Zephyrhills recognized two extraordinary nurses this evening during a "Nurse of the Year" celebration in Pasco County.
Both Laura Sanchez, RN, PCU, of AdventHealth Dade City, and Joel Griffith-Latham, RN, CVICU/ICU, of AdventHealth Zephyrhills, were honored as their respective campus's Overall Nurses of the Year.
At AdventHealth Dade City, Laura Sanchez was recognized for her compassionate, patient-centered care and her unwavering commitment to helping patients feel confident and supported during vulnerable moments.
Leaders and colleagues shared stories of her ability to connect with patients on a deeply human level.
“She was calm and sweet and was able to convince the patient to care for her new colostomy by herself when she went home,” one colleague shared. “This was a huge accomplishment for the patient and the family.”
Others highlighted Sanchez’s growth and dedication over the years, noting that “she gives each of her patients the love and care she would give her family” and praised her as “an amazing bedside nurse” and trusted teammate.
At AdventHealth Zephyrhills, Joel Griffith-Latham was honored for his consistent excellence, compassionate presence and leadership at the bedside. A two-time DAISY Award winner, Griffith-Latham was described as a nurse who sets the standard for exceptional care.
“Joel is amazing—he truly has compassion for his patients,” a leader shared. “He is exceptional at connecting with patients, communicating with the care team and creating an amazing experience for his patients and team. He is constant in his care and continues to grow here at AdventHealth.”
The Nurse of the Year awards are among the highest honors presented at each AdventHealth campus, celebrating nurses who consistently go above and beyond to deliver whole-person care with compassion, excellence and integrity.
