Gordon Hospital recently recognized their emergency department with the DAISY Team Award.
The DAISY Team Award recognizes that while an idea to achieve better patient and family outcomes may start with one individual, it often takes an entire team to implement successfully. It is designed to honor collaboration by two or more people, led by a nurse, who identify and meet patient and/or patient family needs by going above and beyond the traditional role of nursing.
They were nominated by a patient who said the following: Words cannot express how thankful I am for your kindness to me when I was brought to the hospital by ambulance after falling and hurting my head and back. My husband casually mentioned, what a way to spend our 48th anniversary. The next thing we knew, the nurses were bringing in sweets, flowers, a balloon, and a candle. I cant tell you what that meant to both of us. Thank you so much!

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for diseases attacking the immune system.)
The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
