Gordon Home Care, a service of Gordon Hospital, has been recognized as one of the most successful home care providers in the United States.
Gordon Home Care was recognized as a Top 100 Agency by 2015 HomeCare Elite, a listing of the top tier health care agencies in the United States based on performance measures.
"For a second consecutive year, our home care team not only achieved the quality standing of being in the top 25 percent of the home health agencies, but was also ranked in the top 100 agencies in the country," said Gordon Hospital Chief Financial Officer Cory Reeves.
Gordon Home Care Director Nancy Sharp, RN, BSN, explained that the scoring for the listing is a combination of patient clinical outcomes, process measures, HHCAPS (Home Health Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems), and financial outcomes. The data for the study is based on publicly available information.
This review names the top 25 percent of agencies based on performance measures, including quality of care, quality improvement, patient experience, process measure implementation, and financial management.
Gordon Home Care also received a 5-star rating reported on Home Health Compare, exceeding the state and national average of 3-stars.
Home Health Compare has information about the quality of care provided by "Medicare-certified" home health agencies throughout the nation. Medicare-certified means the home health agency is approved by Medicare and meets certain federal health and safety requirements.
According to Medicares website, a 4- or 5-star rating means the agency performed better than other agencies on the nine measured care practices and outcomes, while a 1- or 2-star rating means the agency's average performance on the nine measured care practices and outcomes was below the averages of other agencies. Across the country, most agencies fall "in the middle" with 3 or 3 stars.
Patients were surveyed about their recent home health care experiences, including the following criteria:
- How often the home health team gave care in a professional way?
- How well did the home health team communicate with patients?
- Did the home health team discuss medicines, pain, and home safety with patients?
- How do patients rate the overall care from the home health agency?
- Would patients recommend the home health agency to friends and family?
"We are very proud to continue to carry an excellent health care reputation alongside our hospital team," said Sharp. "Our home care staff makes that possible. Everyone here is committed to quality. Most of our team members have been with us for a while, and that longevity is essential to our success."
Sharp, who has been employed by Gordon Hospital for more than 10 years, was announced as Gordon Home Care director in November 2015 after serving as interim director since the beginning of the second quarter.
"Nancy did an astounding job in her role as interim director," said Reeves. "We look forward to her continued leadership."
"Our employees go above and beyond their duty at work," said Sharp. "Its not just a job for our team. They're here because they want to be."
