VOLUSIA and FLAGLER COUNTIES, Fla. During March, the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties which comprise the Florida Hospital East Florida Region and Florida Cancer Specialists will host luncheons on digestive health and colorectal cancer.
Digestive disorders affect a large portion of the population as well as a large area of the human body. This may include disorders such as GERD, heartburn, constipation, and colorectal cancer, the nations second leading cause of cancer deaths.
In the U.S., colorectal cancer accounts for nearly 10 percent of cancer deaths. While the likelihood of dying from colorectal cancer has decreased due to screenings, one in three adults ages 50-75 are not up-to-date with recommended colorectal cancer screening. Sadly, one in 20 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime.
Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer. More than 60 percent of deaths from this disease could be avoided with regular screenings. The good news is there are more than 1 million survivors in the United States.
The community is invited to join Florida Hospital for a physician panel, led by gastroenterologist, medical oncologist and radiation oncologists. There will also be a registered dietitian, genetic counselor, social worker, and nurse navigator available for questions. Seating is limited and a complimentary lunch will be provided. To RSVP, call Call386-516-4421.
