Florida Hospital Flagler Hosts Ankle Seminar

PALM COAST, Fla., September 22, 2016 On Aug. 31, Florida Hospital Flagler hosted a free community seminar featuring orthopedic surgeon Dr. Corey Rosenbaum.

Over breakfast, 50 attendees listened to Rosenbaum discuss the treatment and diagnosis of ankle pain at the Palm Coast hospital.

The ankle is one of the most commonly injured joints in body, he said. Post-traumatic arthritis often occurs after an ankle injury, such as a sprain or break. It can occur months to years after an injury.

When conservative treatments of ankle arthritis, such as physical therapy, bracing and injections, are no longer effective, a total ankle replacement can be considered, he said.

The procedure removes and replaces the diseased bone in the ankle.

With a replacement, our goal is to reduce pain and increase stability in the ankle joint, he said. Many patients who undergo this procedure have been dealing with chronic pain for a long time. By replacing the joint, patients can walk again without much pain.

Dr. Rosenbaum is the only orthopedic surgeon in Flagler, Volusia, and St. Johns counties performing total ankle replacements.

Throughout August Florida Hospital Flagler hosted a series of lectures featuring orthopedic surgeons at the hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties. These seminars focused on various orthopedic conditions and the impact they can have on a healthy lifestyle.

One in seven Americans suffers from an orthopedic ailment and more than 7 million will need hospitalization at some point in their lives. These staggering facts highlight the importance of orthopedic awareness.
