Florida Hospital DeLand Hosts Knee Pain Seminar

DELAND, Fla., August 17, 2016 On Aug. 10, Florida Hospital DeLand hosted a free community seminar featuring orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mark Hollmann. Over lunch, Hollmann discussed the diagnosis and treatment options for knee pain.

Arthritis sufferers can look fairly healthy, but they are suffering from pain and loss of mobility in their joints, Hollmann said. Arthritis is fairly common and it is very likely you know someone affected by arthritis. Half of Americans who are 65 years and older have arthritis. Younger people have a lower risk, yet still make up half of all people affected with arthritis.

When movement becomes painful, that's when Hollmann recommends patients seek medical attention.

Pain can cause you to miss out on activities with family and friends, he said. If you decrease your activity levels, that's when you'll see an increase in a risk of strokes and heart disease.

Throughout August, Florida Hospital hosted a series of lectures featuring orthopedic surgeons at the hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties. These seminars focused on various orthopedic conditions and the impact they can have on a healthy lifestyle.

One in seven Americans suffers from an orthopedic ailment and more than 7 million will need hospitalization at some point in their lives. These staggering facts highlight the importance of orthopedic awareness.
