Florida Hospital DeLand Foundation Donates Funds for Baby Bassinet

DELAND, Fla., August 29, 2016 On Aug. 23, the Florida Hospital DeLand Foundation donated $8,600 to the hospital. The funds were raised from donor and employee donations and will enable the hospital to purchase new mobile bassinets for the hospitals 12-bed BirthCare Center.

We are so appreciative of this generous donation from our Foundation and community, said Becky Vernon, Florida Hospital DeLand director of women and children's services. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends parents sleep nearby, but separate from babies, since sharing a bed with an infant has been associated with SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). The gift of these bassinets will provide a comfortable and safe sleeping environment to our smallest patients.

DeLand is a unique community. It is a community where we see multiple generations of families being born in the same hospital. These families truly are our families and we are thrilled to be able to offer their very first home environment with our beautiful new bassinets, said Maureen McLain Mercho, Florida Hospital DeLand Foundation Executive Director. These bassinets are a continuation of funding that Florida Hospital DeLand Foundation has raised to create a warm and welcoming environment throughout our entire BirthCare Center.
