DELAND, Fla. — Patients across West Volusia now have access to expanded heart care and faster, more comfortable MRI exams at AdventHealth DeLand following the completion of upgrades to the hospital's cardiac catheterization lab and imaging department.

The upgrades expand the hospital's ability to diagnose and treat heart conditions while improving the imaging experience and reducing radiation exposure for patients throughout West Volusia.

“When someone needs answers about their heart or another serious health concern, they shouldn't have to leave their community to get them,” said Khelsea Bauer, president and CEO of AdventHealth DeLand. “These upgrades help more people receive advanced care here in West Volusia, where their families and support systems already are.”

The Cath Lab equips clinicians with advanced tools for complex heart, vascular and interventional radiology procedures, including new treatment options for patients with high blood pressure that has been difficult to control with medication.

The expansion also adds a brand new pre and post-operative area, with six dedicated recovery bays to the unit, allowing more patients and their families to prepare for procedures and recover afterward.

Its wider opening and higher weight capacity allow more people to complete needed imaging, while AI technology adjusts for breathing and heart movement to help reduce blurry images that can lead to repeat scans.

“Most people never expect they'll need a heart procedure or an MRI,” Bauer said. “But when that day comes, having these services available here in West Volusia can make a difficult experience a little easier.”
