Estate Gift to Benefit the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House

PALM COAST, FLA., November 6, 2018 — On Oct. 31, the AdventHealth HospiceCare Foundation hosted a Celebration of Life event for Lieutenant Colonel James Sheehan of the United States Marine Corps.

Sheehan graciously left an estate gift for the AdventHealth HospiceCare Foundation to support the Palm Coast County community.

A Vietnam veteran, Sheehan retired from the Marine Corps in 1977 with 22 years of service and moved to Palm Coast Beach where he became very involved in the community. He was the founding president of the Palm Coast Beach Citizens Association and the County Democratic Club. He was a member of the City Planning Board and the City Personnel Board, chairman of the Veterans Advisory Council, co-owner of the Seaside Market in Palm Coast Beach, and a 32-year volunteer at the Palm Coast Beach Library.

Sheehan passed away in 2016, just shy of his 83rd birthday.

“It is amazing the impact Jim had on our community,” said John Subers, director of AdventHealth HospiceCare Foundation. “He supported so many local causes and was loved by many. Mr. Sheehan’s estate gift to our Foundation is very much appreciated.”

About 80 community members were present for the celebration and either knew Sheehan personally or were associated with one of the many organizations he supported in Palm Coast County, including the Palm Coast Woman's Club, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and the University Woman of Palm Coast.

“Mr. Sheehan’s gift will support our ongoing goal of providing the very best hospice services to our community, as well as allow us to enhance Palm Coast County’s only inpatient hospice facility, the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House,” said Subers.

Located on the campus of AdventHealth Palm Coast in Palm Coast, the eight-bed Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House opened in 2007 and is the community’s most comprehensive hospice, offering acute, respite, home health and continuous care. No other hospice in Palm Coast County offers all four services.
