Mellissa Pumphrey, RN, and Ian Sorrow, RN, pose after being awarded the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
CALHOUN, Ga. — AdventHealth Gordon is pleased to announce that Ian Sorrow, RN, and Mellissa Pumphrey, RN, have been named the DAISY Award recipients for the fourth quarter of 2025. Sorrow and Pumphrey were honored for their extraordinary compassion and the remarkable care they showed to a patient facing terminal lung cancer.
The two caregivers were nominated after they took meaningful steps, including showing up on a day off, to ensure the patient could experience a personal moment before entering hospice, allowing him to see his beloved vintage truck one last time. Their willingness to go above and beyond created a moment of peace, dignity and comfort for the patient and his family at a profoundly difficult time.
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is an international recognition program that celebrates nurses and caregivers who demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise, exceptional compassion, and dedication to patient-centered care.
AdventHealth Gordon congratulates Ian Sorrow and Mellissa Pumphrey for this well‑deserved recognition and for exemplifying the values of uncommon compassion and kindness. To nominate an Extraordinary Nurse or learn more about the DAISY Foundation, visit DAISYFoundation.org.
