ORLANDO, Fla. — More families in Central Florida will soon have greater access to world-class cancer care close to home, as AdventHealth expands its services with a new, dedicated facility for its Cancer Institute on the AdventHealth Orlando campus.
AdventHealth diagnoses more cancer cases than any other health system in Florida. An estimated one in five residents in Central Florida will require advanced cancer care in the next decade, with local demand expected to grow faster than the state average. Expanding cancer services will help ensure patients can access timely, specialized, whole-person care without the added burden of traveling.
This next phase of investment will bring together advanced treatments and leading-edge research, building on a program ranked No. 30 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, to help patients receive the right care for their unique journey while ensuring Central Florida remains at the forefront of cancer treatment and innovation.
“Every day, we meet patients at one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives,” said Dr. Mark A. Socinski, executive medical director of the AdventHealth Cancer Institute. “Our responsibility is to meet that moment with both expertise and compassion. Expanding our services means more people can receive the advanced, personalized treatments they need, while keeping them close to their families and support systems.”
For patients like Mai Linh Nguyen Achong, that kind of access can make all the difference.
“Going through cancer is overwhelming, and every decision feels urgent,” said Achong. “Having a care team that understood my full story, along with access to treatment options like clinical trials, gave me a sense of peace I didn’t expect. Having a doctor who knows me as a person and provides expert, compassionate care has been instrumental to my emotional and mental well-being. It’s a partnership built on trust, which allows me to focus on healing and staying present for what matters most – my family.”
The enhanced Cancer Institute will bring together a wide range of services, including:
- Subspecialty oncology care tailored to specific cancer types
- Expanded opportunities to participate in clinical trials, including early-phase research, giving patients access to new and emerging treatments sooner
- Advanced surgical and treatment capabilities
- A dedicated urgent care clinic designed to meet the unique needs of immunocompromised cancer patients
- Multidisciplinary care teams focused on whole-person healing
- Services that support both patients and families throughout their journey
AdventHealth is also continuing to grow its physician team, with plans to recruit more than 60 additional oncologists and specialists to care for the region.
This effort is part of a broader vision for the AdventHealth Orlando campus to expand access to the highest level of advanced care across multiple specialties – ensuring the region does not outgrow its health care.
For patients and families, the impact is clear: more access, more support and more opportunities to receive life-changing care close to home – with a team that cares for the whole person, every step of the way.
This next chapter of the AdventHealth Cancer Institute is expected to open in 2028. Learn more about the AdventHealth Cancer Institute and care available to you and your family.
