Join AdventHealth Waterman on May 1 from 5 to 7 pm for the grand opening celebration of the new four-story patient tower, dedicated to expanded emergency care, women’s services, pediatrics and future growth.
The ribbon cutting at AdventHealth Waterman, 1000 Waterman Way, Tavares, will be at 6 pm. This event celebrates the completion of Phase I of a 111,000-square-foot, $74 million expansion.
Within the tower:
- The first floor houses the hospital’s new emergency department. The original ER space will soon undergo renovations as part of Phase II of the construction project.
- The second floor is a dedicated 24-bed women and children’s unit. In partnership with AdventHealth for Women and AdventHealth for Children, the new center includes gynecology, labor and delivery, post-partum care and inpatient pediatrics.
- The third floor will soon be home to a brand-new healthcare service for the Lake County community. During the event, AdventHealth Waterman will reveal this exciting new service!
- The fourth floor will be shelled for future growth.
The structure supports an additional future expansion and could one day add two more floors, bringing the tower up to six floors.
The project was designed by Gresham, Smith and Partners of Jacksonville. Construction was completed by Robins & Morton of Orlando.
With the opening of this new tower, AdventHealth Waterman will grow from 269 beds to 287 beds.
When Phase II is completed in November, the construction project will add a pediatric ER and more than double the size of the emergency department, growing from 35 to 58 beds. This expansion project will also improve privacy and patient flow in the ER and add advanced technology for caring for children, seniors and heart attack patients.
More than 80% of the hospital’s patients originate in the emergency department.Originally built to accommodate 50,000 patients a year, the AdventHealth Waterman emergency department cared for nearly 66,500 patients in 2018.
This is the single largest investment in a Lake County healthcare facility since AdventHealth Waterman’s Tavares campus was completed in 2003. Since 2000, the population of Lake County has grown by nearly 50%, and it’s expected to grow by another 12% over the next four years, according to 2010 US Census data.
