ORLANDO, Fla. — AdventHealth Cancer Institute celebrated National Cancer Survivors Day with a reunion-style gathering that brought together cancer survivors and physicians to honor survivorship, celebrate milestones, and recognize the teams that provide care through every step of the cancer journey.
“I thank the whole team, everybody that I am here today,” said breast cancer survivor Angie Miranda. “When I see my surgeon, it is fun. It was like, ‘I’m not coming back. You healed me,’ and it’s happiness.”
The event underscored the growing need for compassionate, whole-person cancer care.
According to the American Cancer Society, there are about 18.6 million cancer survivors in the United States. Central Florida faces a substantial cancer burden, with Orange County alone averaging more than 6,000 new cancer cases each year.
“Celebrating Cancer Survivors Day is a milestone for patients,” said Dr. Mark Socinski, executive medical director for AdventHealth Cancer Institute. “It’s never easy for patients to go through the treatments, but we support them. And at the end of it, this is kind of why I get up in the morning.”
AdventHealth Cancer Institute also continues to serve a large share of cancer patients across Florida.
AdventHealth diagnoses more cancer cases than any other health system in the state, and AdventHealth Orlando is ranked No. 30 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for cancer care.
To every survivor, the message was clear: Your story matters, your resilience inspires and your journey is honored.
