Breakfast Seminar Addresses Nations 2nd Leading Cause of Cancer Deaths

PALM COAST, Fla., December 8, 2016 On Dec. 6, the community joined Florida Hospital Flagler for free breakfast seminar on the nations second leading cause of cancer deaths, colorectal cancer.

One in 20 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime. While the likelihood of dying from colorectal cancer has decreased due to screenings, one in three adults ages 50-75 are not up-to-date with recommended colorectal cancer screening.

It is estimated that more than half of all colorectal cancer cases could be prevented by regular colonoscopy screening. During a screening, we can find and remove polyps before they become cancer or before the cancer has spread, and when treatment can be more effective, said Florida Hospital Flagler gastroenterologist Dr. Issam Nasr. Early colorectal cancer usually has no symptoms, so don't wait for symptoms to occur to get screened. Treatment is most effective when colorectal cancer is found early.
