Brandon Bargo’s story: Finding hope in the hardest moments

When Brandon Bargo walked into the AdventHealth Clinic Corbin, located in Walmart, he wasn’t just seeking medical care. He was searching for something deeper: hope.

Brandon had been the primary caregiver for his son for nearly a decade.

“I love him to death,” Brandon shared. “But there were days when it felt like I was carrying the world on my shoulders.”

He recalled a moment when his son threw makeup powder into the ceiling fan, turning the entire room pink.

“I woke up to a completely pink living room. There were times I could only do so much as one person.”

The stress of caregiving, combined with personal loss, began to take a toll. Brandon and his wife eventually separated, and he returned to his childhood home, which had been vacant for years.

“Coming back felt like returning to a graveyard,” he said. “I’d lost my mom, my grandparents, and most of my family. All I had left was my dad and two brothers.”

Brandon felt overwhelmed, exhausted, and unsure of what came next. One day, while helping his dad pick up oil at Walmart, he noticed a banner for the clinic.

“I thought, ‘I don’t know how you can help someone this broken,’ but I went in. It felt like one last stop before I did something I’d regret.”

Inside the clinic, Brandon met Ashley, a team member who greeted him with kindness and compassion.

“She was the sweetest person. She didn’t judge me. She was just there to help.”

Ashley connected Brandon with the AdventHealth Primary Care Clinic Behavioral Health department. That conversation became a turning point.

“They helped me get set up with food stamps and other resources. I started slowly picking up the pieces,” Brandon said. “I didn’t even realize I was getting better until people started telling me I looked better. Somewhere between psychiatry and therapy, everything they set up for me started snowballing into healing.”

Brandon recently learned that his son will be staying with him full time.

“It’s going to be hard being a single parent, but I’m ready. I’ve been there for him before, and I’ll be there for him again.”

Now, Brandon is focused on rebuilding his life one step at a time. He’s navigating work, parenting, and healing, all while holding onto the hope that brought him through the clinic doors.

“If it wasn’t for you guys, I wouldn’t be here to help him,” Brandon said. “I’m thankful for the care, the kindness, and the hope AdventHealth gave me. You didn’t just help me survive. You helped me start living again.”
