Answering the call for a helping hand at home

For Carolyn Dezarn, home is more than a place—it's a lifetime of memories.

She built that life alongside her late husband Paul “Spooly” Dezarn, a beloved AdventHealth Manchester team member known for his curly black hair and kind spirit.

Together, they filled their days with family, traveling across Kentucky and into Tennessee to support their son’s go-kart racing, creating moments that still live on in Carolyn Dezarn’s heart today.

Fourteen years after her husband's passing, Dezarn continues forward with strength and faith. But like many who live alone, some home repairs became difficult to manage, including replacing the flooring in her house.

The answer came through a simple, everyday moment.

While visiting the Crawdad Building, Dezarn ran into David Watson and asked if the AdventHealth mission team might be able to help. His response was immediate: yes.

Soon after, the team arrived at her home ready to serve.

What they brought was more than new flooring. They brought care, presence and a reminder that Dezarn is still surrounded by a community that sees her and cares deeply for her well-being.

Today, Dezarn shares her home with her 14-month-old dog, Wally, a loyal companion she affectionately calls a “momma’s boy.”

She also treasures time with her 11-year-old granddaughter, cheering her on as she competes in equestrian events.

Even with life’s changes, Dezarn continues to stay connected to what matters most—family, faith and the memories she holds close.

When reflecting on the experience, her words were simple but full of meaning: she is thankful.
