Let's talk about life: One woman's quest to save lives by dispelling organ donation myths
There are more than 100,000 people waiting for lifesaving organ transplants in the United States. Black and Hispanic individuals comprise the majority of those on waiting lists, so the need for donors is critical.
Kia Blair leads the Multicultural Affairs and Partnerships department at OurLegacy, Central Florida’s organ procurement organization. She says negative myths are one of the main reasons people in the Black and Hispanic communities hesitate to register as an organ donor. Her job is all about busting those myths.
“It’s really important for me to make sure that people are basing their decisions off of fact. My passion is to make sure that people understand the facts,” Blair said.

Registering to be an organ donor is simple and can be done in minutes by visiting the website for Donate Life Florida.
More information about organ transplants is available at the AdventHealth Transplant Institute online.
