TAVARES, Fla., June 18, 2020 – The AdventHealth Waterman Foundation has awarded 15 students from five local high schools with college scholarships, totaling $16,000.
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted thousands of high school seniors in Lake County. During a time when families are facing uncertainty about their economic future, financial aid for students attending college can be critical.
“In these unprecedented times, the AdventHealth Waterman Foundation is more committed than ever to supporting and empowering young people to pursue their dreams and become our future leaders,” said Dr. Susan Caddell, AdventHealth Waterman Foundation board chair.
These funds are from the Edwin Budge Mead Scholarship, a legacy trust fund established in 2014 by Edwin “Budge” Mead, the first president of the Waterman Memorial Hospital Association’s board of trustees. The AdventHealth Waterman Foundation is the beneficiary of the legacy scholarship trust fund, which has awarded $100,000 in scholarships to more than 70 local students since it was established seven years ago.
“We are extremely grateful for the legacy of support Mr. Mead left for generations of Lake County students,” Caddell said.
This year’s scholarship winners were: Brooke Andrews of Eustis High School, Duna Calixte of Eustis High School, Madi Hiteshew of Mount Dora Christian Academy, Shea Holbrook of Mount Dora Christian Academy, Mollie James of Mount Dora High School, Cole Kainz of Mount Dora Christian Academy, Sarah Marsicek of Mount Dora High School, Anniston McCall of Mount Dora Christian Academy, Maddy Minner of Tavares High School, Nola Myers of Mount Dora High School, Stuart Palmer of Umatilla High School, Sophia Rosenglick of Eustis High School, Kiki Smith of Mount Dora Christian Academy, Maddie Smith of Mount Dora Christian Academy and Crystal Whitbeck of Eustis High School. Many are interested in pursuing careers within the healthcare industry.
