NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., February 26, 2019 – AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach recognized registered nurse Kelly Travis with the DAISY award.
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses.
Travis works in the intensive care unit (ICU) and was nominated for this recognition by the mother of a patient who sadly passed away.
“Kelly talked to our family like she was a sister to us. She kept us informed every minute about what was happening to him, and what she was giving him for medication. Her personality was so wonderful, and she made us feel so comfortable through the hardest part of my life, losing my son.” Connie Rady, a New Smyrna Beach resident, wrote. “She didn't lie or say he was getting better. She put her arms around us and told us how hard this is. She also prayed with us. I just can't say enough about her.”
Created in 1999, more than 2,500 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 15 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honor nurses.
In recognition of this honor, Travis received a bouquet of daisies, a certificate, a tote bag, and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the “Healer’s Touch” by an artist of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
Her unit, the AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach ICU, also received cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
