NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., April 24, 2019 – AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach recognized registered nurse Amberly Halligan with the DAISY award.
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses.
Halligan works in the intensive care unit (ICU) and was nominated for this recognition by the daughter of a patient who sadly passed away.
“No matter what I say in this letter, it will never fully express the gratitude I feel for all you did for my mom and me,” the patient’s daughter wrote in the nomination. “It was the worst 48-hours of my life and I don't know how I could have made it through it without your kindness and compassion. You did things that went way beyond your job and I could see the care you had for both mom and myself. I believe God uses people as his earthly angels to do His work. That's what you are to me - my earthly angel. I'll never be able to thank you enough and I'll never forget you. Because of you, the loss of one of the most important people in my life was a bit more bearable.”
Created in 1999, more than 2,500 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 15 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honor nurses.
In recognition of this honor, Halligan received a bouquet of daisies, a certificate, a tote bag, and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the “Healer’s Touch” by an artist of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
Her unit, the AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach ICU, also received cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
