ADVENTHEALTH DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — For people dealing with joint pain in the hips or knees, complex orthopedic injuries, or conditions affecting the hand and arm, access to orthopedic care can shape everyday life — from returning to work to staying active with family. To help patients receive this type of specialized care more quickly and close to home, AdventHealth Medical Group has added three orthopedic surgeons in Volusia County.
Dr. Shawn O’Keefe and Dr. James McFadden perform procedures at AdventHealth Daytona Beach, while Dr. Sonya Clark performs procedures at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach.
AdventHealth Medical Group is a network of nearly 500 physicians and advanced practice providers in Flagler, Lake, St. Johns and Volusia counties representing 30 specialties. Together, they cared for more than one million patient visits in 2025. Also, last year, AdventHealth recruited nearly 115 physicians and advanced practitioners across the division.
O’Keefe specializes in robotic-assisted hip and knee replacements.
“Orthopedic care is about restoring movement and confidence,” O’Keefe said. “For many patients, that means less pain and the ability to get back to work, stay active, or keep up with the people who matter most to them.”
O’Keefe earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Broward Health Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in adult reconstruction at Cleveland Clinic Florida.
McFadden treats orthopedic trauma, including fractures and complex injuries, often supporting patients from the initial injury through recovery and rehabilitation.
“Injuries can change daily life in an instant,” McFadden said. “Our focus is to help patients recover safely and steadily so they can move forward with healing.”
McFadden earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Illinois Medical Center, followed by fellowship training in orthopedic trauma at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
At AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach, Clark provides specialized hand and upper extremity care for conditions that can interfere with routine activities and independence.
“When pain or injury affects the hand or arm, even simple tasks can become difficult,” Clark said. “Helping patients regain comfort and function can make a meaningful difference in daily life.”
Clark earned her medical degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center and completed her orthopedic surgery residency at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis, followed by a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
“As demand for care continues to rise across the region, growing our physician network is about making sure our neighbors can get specialty care without unnecessary delays or travel,” said Bryan Mueller, president & CEO, AdventHealth Medical Group. “When physicians are closely connected to hospital teams in the community, patients experience more coordinated care from diagnosis through recovery.”
