AdventHealth invites community to listening sessions to help shape the future of care in Western North Carolina

AdventHealth is inviting people across Western North Carolina to participate in a series of Community Listening Sessions in Buncombe, Graham, Madison and Yancey counties designed to gather input and share updates on the proposed expansion of hospital services in the region.

These sessions are part of AdventHealth’s ongoing commitment to building a health care destination that reflects the values and needs of the communities it serves. The initiative supports the upcoming application to add 129 acute care beds to the approved hospital site in Buncombe County, bringing the total to 222 beds.

“This hospital is more than a location, it’s a promise,” said Brandon Nudd, President and CEO of AdventHealth Hendersonville and AdventHealth Polk. “It’s a commitment to bring more not-for-profit, whole-person care to Western North Carolina. These additional beds will allow us to meet the growing needs of our region and deliver the high-acuity, compassionate care our communities deserve.”

The sessions will be held throughout August in accessible community locations such as libraries, senior centers, and town halls. Attendees will be able to:

  • Preview the proposed hospital design
  • Share feedback and ideas with AdventHealth leaders
  • Submit letters of support for the expansion application
  • Learn how expanded services will meet growing health care needs across the region

Confirmed sessions include:

  • Yancey County: August 7, 4 to 6 pm at Yancey County Senior Center
  • South Buncombe: August 20, 4 to 6 pm at Skyland/South Buncombe Library
  • Weaverville: August 26, 4 to 6 pm at Weaverville Community Center
  • Candler: August 27, 4 to 6 pm at Enka-Candler Public Library

Community voices have already played a pivotal role in shaping this journey. Their strong support led the State of North Carolina to approve AdventHealth’s initial CON applications – first for a 67-bed hospital and then for an additional 26 beds – affirming the region’s call for more access, more choice and more whole-person care.

“We’re building on a legacy of whole-person care that spans more than a century,” said Victoria Dunkle, Director of Communications and PR. “These sessions are about listening to our community and ensuring that the care we provide truly reflects what matters most to the people of Western North Carolina.”
