AdventHealth Hendersonville Breast Center renews prestigious accreditation for exceptional patient care

AdventHealth Hendersonville Breast Center Earns Renewal of Prestigious Accreditation for Exceptional Patient Care

AdventHealth Hendersonville is celebrating its Breast Center teams across Western North Carolina for earning the renewal of the prestigious national accreditation for exceptional breast cancer care.

The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a quality program administered by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) has once again granted accredited status to AdventHealth Hendersonville’s Cancer Services.

The NAPBC is a voluntary three-year accreditation program. AdventHealth Hendersonville first earned this accreditation in 2009 and has continued to meet the high standards of this recognition ever since. The NAPBC standards address a center’s leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement for patients.

This prestigious achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our Cancer Services, Breast Surgery, Breast Imaging, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Breast Health Navigators, Primary Care, and many other departments and team members. Their collaborative efforts ensure that AdventHealth meets the high standards and practices set by the NAPBC program.

"Achieving and maintaining the NAPBC accreditation is a significant milestone for our Breast Center team. It highlights our dedication to providing top-tier breast cancer care and our commitment to continuous improvement,” said Christy Harwood, DNP, MBA, RN, NE-BC, Director of Cancer Services for AdventHealth Hendersonville. “I am so proud of their drive to do all they can to make sure our patients receive the highest quality care with uncommon compassion."

Patients receiving care through AdventHealth’s NAPBC-accredited Breast Centers can be confident that their multidisciplinary breast care team is committed to working together to provide the highest-quality breast care including access to information on clinical trials and new treatment options, genetic counseling, and patient-centered services including psychosocial support, rehabilitation services, and survivorship care.

AdventHealth’s Breast Program Director, Colette A. Salm-Schmid, MD, FACS, a board-certified surgeon and fellowship-trained breast surgeon, was appointed to lead the efforts of renewing the NAPBC accreditation.

"Maintaining the NAPBC accreditation is a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional breast cancer care.,” said Dr. Salm-Schmid. “This achievement underscores the dedication and collaborative efforts of our entire team to uphold the highest standards of patient-centered, multidisciplinary care. For our patients, this means access to comprehensive, state-of-the-art treatment options and the assurance that they are receiving the best possible care throughout their journey with us."
