DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., December 16, 2019 - AdventHealth Daytona Beach recognized registered nurse Cory Frandsen and licensed practical nurse Emily McRae with the DAISY award.
Frandsen works in the medical progressive care unit at AdventHealth Daytona Beach and was nominated for this recognition by a patient.
“During my time at the hospital, I met a lot of great nurses, but there was one that really stood out. When I asked him about his career and his background, he told me that he served as a paramedic in the military,” the patient wrote. “I have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and he told me that his wife has it as well. I gained a lot of information from him and his wife’s experience with COPD.”
“He was on top of my condition, explaining everything and always kept me well informed. Cory was really great with changing my IVs and taking care of any issues I had,” the patient added. “He was extremely attentive and an extraordinary nurse.”
McRae works in the Medical Care Unit and was also nominated for this recognition by a patient.
“She is a kind and compassionate nurse who really cares about the people in her care, their family and friends. She performed her nursing duties with expertise and in a timely manner,” the patient recounted. “She always makes sure you understand what you are being treated for and always takes the time to answer any questions or concerns you may have.”
In recognition of this honor, both Frandsen and McRae received an award pin, a tote bag, and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the Healers Touch by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe. Both of their units also received cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
Created in 1999, more than 2,400 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 14 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honor nurses.
