AdventHealth Castle Rock made history on Monday, September 15 by becoming the first hospital in the Rocky Mountain Region (RMR) to implement hellocare Smart Room Technology, marking a milestone in hospital innovation.
At its core, hellocare Smart Room Technology transforms the traditional hospital room with electronic door signs, digital whiteboards, and advanced video capabilities. These enhancements streamline communication, reduce disruptions, and help care teams focus on what matters most: supporting the well-being of patients and their families.
According to Jesse Loar, MD, Chief Medical Officer at AdventHealth Castle Rock and co-executive lead for the project, the journey to this launch has been both collaborative and exciting.
“We have been working as a region and as a campus for months to get to today and I am so excited to see us get across the finish line with go live,” said Dr. Loar.
For fellow co-executive lead and AdventHealth Castle Rock Chief Nursing Officer, Ellery Reed, the excitement level is just as high.
“On a scale of 1–10, it’s definitely a 10!” Reed said. “We have been hearing about this launch since we became fully AdventHealth, and to see it come to fruition is incredible.”
The introduction of Smart Room Technology brings benefits for both patients and care teams.
For patients, Smart Room Technology brings more personalized care. Dr. Loar believes the features will allow patients to have more time with providers during the day, which will improve communication. Families can stay better connected, and providers can engage more meaningfully with those they serve.
Reed shared that the platform will also open new doors for connection and collaboration.
“The technology will not only speed up care but create connections that we have not been able to in the past,” she said. “For example, a consulting physician can pull in a family member that lives in another city or state to include them in the conversation. This will allow for much more effective and efficient care planning and communication for our patients and families.”
For care teams, the platform reduces administrative tasks and supports more efficient workflows, freeing up valuable time for direct patient care.
“I think our providers will find the interface easier and more convenient to use than prior virtual platforms,” said Dr. Loar. “We are excited to explore all of the creative ways to utilize it.”
Being first comes with both excitement and responsibility.
“It's always a little scary to be the first to do something, but it has been great to lead the charge for RMR,” Dr. Loar said, praising the IT and informatics teams. “Their time, energy, and efforts over the last weeks and months have set us up for success today. I want to thank them for being such great partners.”
Among the many features, Dr. Loar is especially enthusiastic about the seamless use of interpreters and the ability to involve family members easily in care conversations.
As the technology continues to roll out, both leaders shared messages of encouragement.
“We are excited to use this tool to improve communication between you, your family, and your care teams,” Dr. Loar said.
Reed added, “Give it a chance. I promise it will enhance the care we are able to provide.”
With the launch of hellocare Smart Room Technology, AdventHealth Castle Rock is taking a significant step forward in supporting whole-person care, body, mind, and spirit, setting a new standard for patient-centered innovation in the region and beyond.
