Vascular Ring
A vascular ring is a tracheal defect diagnosed in children who display especially noisy and labored breathing, an inability to gain weight, frequent respiratory infections and shortness of breath. Here, the great vessels of the heart and their branches actually encircle and constrict the esophagus and airway. When this condition causes significant breathing and feeding problems, surgical repair may be necessary. Possible procedures include aortopexy and anterior tracheal suspension.
