Long QT Syndrome
Long QT syndrome is a heart arrhythmia disorder that can be caused by an inherited genetic defect or (more rarely) acquired from long-term use of certain medications. While many people with Long QT syndrome are without symptoms and only diagnosed by electrocardiogram, the disorder can cause rapid and erratic heartbeats that may result in fainting, seizures or even sudden death. Some studies have suggested a possible connection between this disorder and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) in infants. The condition is treated via medications, pacemaker or cardioverter defibrillator implantation or other surgeries.
