Labral Tears

A labral tear is an injury to the soft tissue that surrounds the hip socket. Causes of a labral tear can include trauma or a sports injury but are more commonly related to a condition known as FAI, or femoroacetabular impingement. Another possible cause of a labral tear is joint degeneration tied to osteoarthritis. A patient who has experienced a labral tear may complain of pain in their groin region or at the front of their hip, particularly when bending over or rotating. In some cases, a clicking noise may accompany such movements. Orthopaedic and sports medicine physicians are specially trained in diagnosing and treating labral tears. In cases where surgery is required, hip arthroscopy can be employed to reattach the separated tissue or remove a portion of it to allow for greater functionality.
