Fetal Testing

Throughout the 40 weeks of a typical pregnancy, several fetal tests, or antenatal tests, are provided to help your doctor monitor and evaluate your health and the health of your baby. At each visit, you’ll be screened for blood pressure changes, changes in your urine, signs of abnormal swelling and other symptoms. Additional tests may be recommended as well; the tests that your doctor orders and when they will be performed will depend on your age, heath status and your medical history. Antenatal tests are used as screening tools and diagnostic tests to make sure the fetus is developing properly and the mother is healthy. Some common tests include blood and urine tests, ultrasounds, chronic villus sampling (CVS), alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), and Amniocentesis.
