Colorectal Cancer
Colorectal cancer – also known as colon cancer or rectal cancer – occurs when there is an uncontrolled growth of the cells within those two areas of the body. When diagnosed at an early stage, it is often beatable with the help of minimally invasive and laparoscopic procedures that can remove the tumor and halt its spread. Some potential causes of colorectal cancer include heavy consumption of fatty foods and red meat, obesity, and smoking. While more men develop this disease than women, it’s important that everyone over the age of 50 undergo regular colonoscopy screening for colorectal cancers at least once a decade (and more often if you have certain risk factors). Typical symptoms of the disease can include bloody stools, weight loss, anemia, fever and nausea and vomiting in patients over 50.
