Cancer Surgery
Once your cancer is diagnosed and staged, cancer surgery may be required to remove the tumor and surrounding tissue. Our surgical specialists are experienced in minimally invasive and traditional procedures to remove and treat the cancer. Cancer surgery has the best chance of curing the patient if the cancer is localized, meaning it hasn’t spread to other parts of the body. Most surgeries are followed by radiation and/or chemotherapy to make sure all of the cancerous cells are eliminated. After your surgery, your doctor may request a series of laboratory and diagnostic tests to check and see if all of the cancer was removed and if the treatment worked. From this information, your doctor will proceed with the original plan of care, or create a new plan based on the results of your tests and treatments. Cancer surgery and recovery will vary depending on the location and type of cancer, and whether or not it has spread to other parts of the body.
