Broken Ankle
A broken ankle is a chip, crack or break in any of the bones that make up the ankle joint. Symptoms can include bruising and swelling of the ankle and pain when walking, resting or touching the ankle. Ankle injuries, including sprains as well as fractures, are extremely common and can involve damage to the ligaments and connecting tissues. Ankle sprains can sometimes mimic the pain of a fracture, so it is important to seek medical assessment for all such injuries. Because the involved bones are so small and the injury symptoms so similar, your doctor may need an X-ray to differentiate a sprain from a broken ankle.
