The resident is eligible for enrollment in AdventHealth Shawnee Mission group health insurance beginning on day 1 of employment.

Life insurance benefits up to $50,000 is provided at no cost to the resident.

​​​​​​Introductory learning experience designed to orient the resident to the roles and responsibilities of staffing and clinical pharmacists, pharmacy operations, and project management and leadership.

​​​​​Utilizes a unit-based practice model designed to provide the resident with experience managing a wide variety of disease states while functioning as a member of a multidisciplinary team. The resident will develop and monitor care plans, participate in rounds, respond to pharmacy consults, and educate patients on HNVU (Heart and Neurovascular Unit), PCU (Progressive Care Unit), and MSU (Medical-Surgical Unit).

​​​​​​This rotation is designed to develop and strengthen skills necessary for providing care to the adult critical care population. On the 28-bed medical ICU (MICU) unit, residents will participate in multidisciplinary rounds, provide comprehensive pharmaceutical services, and respond to medical emergencies. The primary goal of this rotation is for the resident to develop critical thinking skills and become proficient in problem identification, prioritization, and communication of recommendations in order to optimize patient care.

​​​​​​The cardiovascular care unit at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is a 29-bed unit that allows the resident to observe and manage problems specific to cardiovascular disease patients. This rotation will also involve monitoring of cardiac patients in the MICU, post cardiovascular care unit and Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) clinic.

​​​​​​A broad educational experience designed to train pharmacists in all aspects of emergency medicine. Residents working alongside the clinical pharmacist will respond to all code blue and code stroke calls in the ED, perform medication reconciliations for admitted patients, and address medication consults and drug information requests.

​​​​​​Provide comprehensive care to psychiatric patients with a variety of mental health and substance use disorders. The resident will work closely with a multidisciplinary team comprised of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and social workers to optimize patient outcomes.

​​​​​​Develop pharmacotherapy knowledge and skills necessary in providing care to patients with cancer. Primary learning experiences include proficiency at chemotherapy order verification, safe compounding of hazardous medications, and patient education. The resident will work closely with med-onc and gyn-onc teams to optimize patient care.

​​​​​​Introduce the resident to a wide variety of infectious disease related topics as well as participation in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP). The resident and clinical pharmacist work closely alongside Infectious Diseases physicians on a daily basis in order to optimize antimicrobial use and patient outcomes. The resident will participate in monitoring of high risk and restricted antibiotics, as well as utilization review, policy development and education of prescribers.
