At AdventHealth Polk, we offer total hip replacement surgery, also known as arthroplasty. This procedure corrects the damaged hip joint by removing it and replacing it with an implant made of metal, plastic, ceramic or a combination of materials.
Hip replacement surgery is a safe, durable and effective treatment for arthritis and other hip joint issues. After hip replacement surgery, pain is significantly reduced or eliminated, allowing for increased mobility. Patients will easily be able to resume most activities after rehabilitation.
- Knee Treatments

Arthroscopic knee repairs include torn meniscus, inflamed synovial tissue, loose bone and cartilage fragments, patella issues and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repairs.
If your orthopedic team determines that a total knee replacement is your best treatment, our expert surgeons provide superb patient outcomes. Our approach results in shorter hospital stays and greatly improved recovery times.
A total knee replacement replaces injured or worn-out knee joints with metal and plastic components. This surgery helps to relieve pain, improve range of motion and restore quality of life.
We were one of the first hospitals in the southeast — and the first in North Carolina — to offer customized total knee replacement.
- Shoulder Treatments

The shoulder is a complex assembly of bones, joints and muscles with the greatest range of motion of any joint in the human body. Most shoulder issues are relieved with rest, physical therapy, medications, injections or other conservative treatments. However, surgery may be necessary when shoulder conditions do not improve after nonsurgical treatment.
Our expert team of orthopedic surgeons offers several treatment options for shoulder pain.
Shoulder Replacement
A shoulder replacement removes the damaged bones and replaces them with metal and plastic implants. We recommend a replacement for patients who don’t respond to anti-inflammatory meds, corticosteroid injections, physical therapy or lifestyle modifications.
There are three types of shoulder replacement, including:
- Total shoulder joint replacement (replacement of shoulder joint ball and socket)
- Partial shoulder joint replacement (replaces the humeral head, which is the top of the arm bone)
- Reverse total shoulder replacement
Reverse total shoulder replacement reverses the positions of the artificial joint components; otherwise, it is the same as a total shoulder replacement. It treats shoulders with severe arthritis and rotator cuff tears. The reverse shoulder procedure limits movement after the procedure, but the shoulder pain is dramatically lower.
Conditions that may require a shoulder joint replacement include arthritis that causes severe joint damage, a humeral head fracture or a fracture of the articulating portion of the arm bone.
Joint replacement allows patients to live pain-free lives, perform many movements and reengage in many activities.
After a shoulder replacement, most people have significantly reduced pain, while many have no pain. In addition, most people experience a considerable range of motion and strength restored.
Arthroscopic Shoulder Repairs
Through minimally invasive procedures, we can treat most shoulder conditions, including:
- Bone spurs
- Cartilage tears
- Chronic shoulder dislocation
- Labrum tears
- Ligament tears
- Tears in the rotator cuff
Shoulder surgery repairs injuries and diseased shoulder joints, relieves pain and restores function.
We offer three types of shoulder repair surgeries, including:
- Minimally invasive
- Mini-open surgery
- Traditional shoulder surgery
Shoulder Stabilization
Our orthopedic experts produce outstanding results in stabilizing shoulders. Physical therapy and nonsurgical options treat most of the shoulder destabilization injuries. However, the most severe subluxations and dislocations require surgical repair.
Conditions repaired through shoulder stabilization include:
- Acromioclavicular (AC) ligament tears
- Chronic shoulder dislocation
- Glenoid labrum tears
- Rotator cuff tears

Physical therapy is essential to facilitating the recovery process. At our rehabilitation center, patients regain shoulder strength, flexibility and function through one-on-one physical therapy sessions.
