About this Event
Research shows that breastfeeding provides the healthiest start for your baby’s nutritional needs. This two‑hour class is designed for expectant mothers and their support person who are considering breastfeeding. You’ll learn the facts, common myths, and evidence‑based recommendations for feeding your newborn, as well as how to care for yourself during this stage. The course supports the principles of the Texas Ten Step and Baby-Friendly programs.
Topics include:
- Breast anatomy and how hormones support milk production
- Skin-to-skin contact and newborn stabilization
- Signs of a good latch and effective latching techniques
- Proper positioning and breastfeeding holds
- Breast care essentials
- Hand expression and pumping basics
- Safe breast milk storage
- Stages of milk production and milk release
- Newborn hunger cues and how to tell if your baby is feeding well
- Infant digestion and normal elimination patterns
- Maternal nutrition and warning signs of infection
