Effectiveness and safety of Sotagliflozin in slowing kidney function decline in persons with type 1 diabetes and moderate to severe diabetic kidney disease: The SUGARNSALT Trial

Study Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out if a drug called sotagliflozin (SOTA) can slow kidney function decline in persons with type 1 diabetes and moderate to severe diabetic kidney disease (defined as greater than 50% reduction in kidney filtering function and the leakage of increased amounts of protein in the urine).
Study Duration: ~3 years

Age: 18-75 years old
Sex: Male and Female
Conditions/Eligibility: Ages of 18-75 years, have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at least eight years ago and have reduced kidney function with increased amounts of protein in your urine.
Study Procedures: • Physical exam, vital signs, height, weight, screening labs, urine screen, Pregnancy test (if applicable), EKG
• Continuous glucose monitor (CGM) application
• Medical and medication history
• Self reported questionnaires
• Education on DKA prevention
• Study Medication
• Multiple blood draws and urine collections
• BHB or Ketone monitoring
