Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma (JPA)

Devoting All Our Expertise to Your Child

A juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma (JPA) is a slow-growing brain tumor most commonly found in children ages 5 to 8. The tumor often develops in the lower back part of the brain, called the cerebellum, and is filled with fluid. Common symptoms include headache, nausea, vomiting, poor balance and visual problems. We understand how challenging it can be to receive this type of diagnosis, and our experts will provide unwavering support to your family as we guide you through your options.

We specialize in minimally invasive treatments that use laser technology to remove JPA tumors or reduce their size. Using intraoperative MRI, our surgeons can view 3D images of JPAs during surgery, helping them to remove more of the tumor. These advanced techniques keep the surrounding tissue safe and often mean a faster recovery, too. We'll be with you every step of the way to answer all your questions and ease your mind.
