Finding New Hope for Rare Brain Tumors
Atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumors (ATRTs) are rare brain tumors usually found in children under age 3. They can grow anywhere in the central nervous system, but most often occur at the base of the brain and cause symptoms like morning headaches, nausea, coordination problems or increased head size in infants. Today, new tests using genetic markers are improving outcomes for children with ATRTs through earlier diagnosis and advanced treatment, and our experienced teams in the AdventHealth Neuroscience Institute network will be with you at every step.
Our state-of-the-art facilities offer innovative care for children and adults with ATRTs, including intraoperative MRI technology to view 3D images of the tumors during surgery, and minimally invasive procedures that use laser technology to remove tumors or reduce their size. Together, these advanced techniques mean more of the tumor can be removed while the surrounding tissue is kept safe, all with less pain and a faster recovery.
