Biography

Tyler Dobbs, PhD, earned a BS in Exercise Science from South Dakota State University and an MS in Exercise Physiology from Boise State University. He is an ACSM-certified Exercise Physiologist and completed his PhD in the Integrated Physiology Program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus under the mentorship of Dr. Kristen Nadeau. His doctoral research focused on the impact of metabolic bariatric surgery in youth-onset type 2 diabetes, with an emphasis on post-operative metabolic and body composition adaptations.

Dr. Dobbs is joining TRI as a postdoctoral fellow under the mentorship of Dr. Bret Goodpaster, where he aims to gain advanced training in the role of body composition particularly skeletal muscle mass and quality in shaping metabolic health across the lifespan. His research interests center on how age-related losses in muscle mass and function (sarcopenia) contribute to metabolic decline, insulin resistance, and increased cardiometabolic risk. His work examines the physiological and metabolic adaptations associated with changes in lean and fat mass, including how preserving or enhancing muscle during weight gain, weight loss, and aging may mitigate adverse health outcomes.
