CREATION Health Principles

You’re God’s creation, and He has plans for you, regardless of your stage of life. By practicing the eight biblical principles of CREATION Health — Choice, Rest, Environment, Activity, Trust, Interpersonal Relationships, Outlook and Nutrition — you’re on your way to fulfilling God’s plans. When you’re healthy physically, mentally and spiritually, you can focus on living, loving and serving in your own unique way.

These principles guide our services and programs at the Donald and Audrey Conry CREATION Health Center at AdventHealth Waterman, formerly Florida Hospital Waterman. Here you’ll find support and guidance to help transform your life in positive ways.

The CREATION Health principles are backed by science. They have been proven successful in studies funded by the National Institutes of Health, World Health Organization and National Cancer Institute, among others. More than 150,000 people were studied all over the world. Some results compared to the general population:

For Healthy Living

Free will is one of God’s gifts to us. Every choice you make can take you closer to the full, joyful life He wants for you. Even the smallest daily decisions have benefits or consequences. Often, we know in our hearts what the best course of action may be, but knowing doesn’t always lead to doing. We can help you choose wisely and give you tools and support to help you act on your knowledge.

Rest is incredibly powerful. It refreshes, rejuvenates, regenerates and rebuilds your body, mind and soul. Getting a good night’s sleep and taking time to relax — from short daily breaks to yearly vacations or retreats — are not selfish but vital for you to live your best life. You cannot share peace and joy if your own supply is depleted.

God created a world of life and beauty for us to cherish and care for. But sometimes our immediate surroundings — what we see, hear, smell and touch — can block His light and blind us to His world. You don’t need fancy furnishings or expensive decorating to create a comforting environment. Many people have found that a simple, clean environment filled with people we love and a few treasured items helps to free their thoughts, emotions and priorities, and create a sense of peace.

Your body, emotions and spirit are linked. Activity doesn’t have to mean going to a gym or doing repetitive exercises. Dancing, walking, running, gardening and other physical activities you enjoy can help keep you physically fit. Reading, doing puzzles or learning a new skill can help keep your mind lively and sharp. Find activities that you enjoy, and make time for them. You’ll be glad you did.

Daily struggles — the thorns of this world — can wear you down. And a serious illness, injury or other life crisis can overwhelm you and send your spirit spiraling. Learn to take your struggles and worries to a higher power. Look at the vastness of the universe, and as Jesus advised, consider the sparrow and the lilies of the field. God cares for them, and he cares for you — even when you can’t feel His presence. Seek fellowship in a house of worship. Reach out to others and to God when you’re feeling weak. Trust takes daily practice, but it’s well worth the effort.

Interpersonal Relationships

Celebrate your friends and family. Is there anyone who really cares for you, or feels close to you, or loves you, or wants to help you? Is there someone you can confide in? If so, then according to some studies, you may have three to five times’ lower risk of premature death and disease from all causes than those who don’t have these kinds of relationships. These connections often generate a similar sense of openness, generosity, and goodwill. Although they can take work, good relationships are one of our greatest blessings.

We’ve all known someone who always seems to stay positive and hopeful, even when their lives are difficult? This gift comes more naturally to some of us. For others, it takes a conscious and continuing effort — a daily choice — to keep negative thoughts at bay and focus on the many gifts and good things in our lives. Yes, we need to be realistic and prepared for life’s difficulties to a certain extent. But fear, anxiety and sadness can take over our lives and affect the ones we love. If you need help, don’t be afraid to reach out. We can provide it or help you find other resources.

Nutrition is the fuel that drives your body — and more. Evidence shows that what we eat can affect our mood and mental health — and our mood can affect the food choices we make. Reaching for high-fat, processed “comfort” food is tempting and easy. But it can leave you feeling worse in the long run. With our help — and God’s — you’ll find it easier to choose healthier foods every day, for yourself and your family.
