Ensuring our Medical Research Is Ethical Effective, and Safe
Bringing clinical research to our community allows us to offer advanced care that is not available at many other hospitals. While our clinical teams provide quality, compassionate care during each study, our Institutional Review Board (IRB) ensures that the research trials we participate in are as safe, well planned and ethical as possible. The IRB serves to protect patient rights and welfare before and during a research study.

- For Investigators and Coordinators
For research study investigators and coordinators, following are the steps required for IRB submissions:
1) Register on IRBNet
2) Complete education requirements
3) Submit IRB application and supporting documents in IRBNet.
If you have any questions or need help with the submission process, contact the IRB Administrative Offices at Call813-615-7200, ext. 56516.
Step 1: IRBNet Registration for Electronic Submissions
AdventHealth IRB uses IRBNet for electronic submissions. On this website you can find forms, important information, and guidance for study submissions. When preparing submissions, it is important that you always use the forms provided on IRBNet rather than “old” forms you have saved.
To submit studies to the IRB, you must be registered as a user in IRBNet. To do this, log on to IRBNet and click “New User Registration.” When asked what facility you are affiliated with, choose “AdventHealth Tampa.” Complete activation of your account by visiting the link you will receive in an email upon registration.
The website features additional instructions and training manuals to assist you in registering, creating a new project, and submitting packages.
Step 2: Education Requirements
To ensure the protection of human participants, all research investigators and staff must complete and show verification of training via online research ethics and compliance training via CITI Program.
To register, go to citiprogram.org and create a user name and password. Be sure to select AdventHealth Orlando as your affiliated institution. NOTE: We cannot accept any courses taken under another institution’s affiliation. Any modules completed under a different affiliation will be credited by CITI to the courses you take under the AdventHealth affiliation; you will not have to re-take duplicate modules, only additional ones that we require.
Required courses: A Basic Biomedical or Social/Behavioral module is required depending upon the type of research. A Humanitarian Use Device (HUD) module is required for all team members involved in humanitarian use device submissions.
You must save a Certificate of Completion for each course as a PDF file, or print/scan and save to your computer as a PDF file. These should then be uploaded to your User Profile and submitted via IRBNet. Please DO NOT print a summary listing all dates of completion.
Refresher courses must be completed every three years to maintain a current standing with AdventHealth IRB.
Step 3: Submit via IRBNet
IRB Forms may be downloaded from the Forms Library in IRBNet and attached to your submission, as well as all study documents. Review the Policies and Procedure manual for more information on what forms to use for your submission.
AdventHealth is compliant with federal regulations for membership requirements. If you are conducting research at AdventHealth, you may contact the IRB Administrative Offices at Call813-615-7200, ext. 56516 to receive a copy of the membership roster.
