Elizabeth Butler, DO, FACS, FACOS, is a Board-certified, fellowship-trained breast surgeon with AdventHealth Medical Group Breast Surgery at Shawnee Mission. She joined the AdventHealth Cancer Center in 2023 after working in the same capacity at hospitals in Kansas City’s northland since 2017. She has researched, published and presented extensively on breast disease, and she is highly regarded by both peers and patients as a competent and compassionate surgeon.
As a specialist in breast disease, Dr. Butler treats both benign and malignant conditions, including management of high-risk breast lesions. She is experienced in the care of high-risk breast cancer patients, including those with genetic susceptibility such as BRCA 1 and 2 and strong family histories. She is trained in oncoplastic breast surgery, hidden scar technique and nipple-sparing mastectomy. In the operating room, she implements the latest technologies and advances, including wire-free cancer localization. She and her team leverage Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols to decrease opioid use, pain, nausea and length of hospital stay.
After earning her medical degree at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, Dr. Butler completed her general surgery residency, including service as chief resident, at the University of New England, St. Joseph’s Health. She then went on to complete a fellowship in breast disease at Brown University, Women & Infants Hospital.
Dr. Butler has earned a number of honors for clinical excellence, including having been nominated twice as a speaker for the annual Dr. Feliciano Memorial Lecture and earning the Humanism and Excellence in Teaching and Gold Humanism Honor Society honors from New York Medical College. She is Board-certified in general surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (FACOS).
When Dr. Butler is not at the office, the collegiate soccer standout enjoys keeping active with soccer and golf, dining out, and spending time with her husband and two young daughters.
Dr. Butler welcomes new patients at our Cancer Center on the campus of AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.
