A healthy, vibrant life means something different to every one of us. That’s why at AdventHealth, formerly Shawnee Mission Health, we offer a variety of community health education resources that make wellness simple, whatever your goals. Our elderly and underprivileged neighbors can access free services like health-care education, special clinical and non-clinical programs, and spiritual resources. Community members in and around the Kansas City area are also invited to join our free or low-cost classes and support groups. It’s all part of our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ to all those around us.

Breastfeeding Support Group
Meets every Tuesday from 10 am to 12 pm at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, 9100 W. 74th Street, Shawnee Mission, KS 66204, in the Shawnee Mission Room. Enter through the Birth Center and follow signs for the support group.

Camp Bluebird

Families Anonymous

One Day at a Time Stroke Support
Our Stroke Support Group has partnered with Mid America Rehab Hospital. We meet the fourth Tuesday of each month at one of the two locations. Times may vary depending on location. As a not-for-profit community health care provider, AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a vital role in the community by reinvesting millions of dollars back into the Kansas City area each year. SMH supports the community in a variety of ways.
- Charity Care

Individuals who are in a particularly difficult financial or personal circumstance may seek relief by applying for reduction or elimination of their charges for medical service at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. In 2007, $7,752,406 of charity care was provided to individuals who could not pay for their hospital services. In addition, pharmaceuticals were provided to impoverished patients when they were dismissed from the hospital.

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission supports a variety of social, educational and civic organizations who share its health care mission. In 2007, the hospital provided support to numerous agencies and organizations, including the Shawnee Mission and Blue Valley School Districts. SMH also supports nearly all metropolitan Chambers of Commerce and economic development organizations.
- Health Partnership Clinic of Johnson County

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is one of numerous area hospitals that support the operational budget of the Health Partnership Clinic of Johnson County. AdventHealth Shawnee Mission physicians and nurses also volunteer their time and expertise to serve uninsured, low-income patients who do not qualify for Medicaid. In addition to direct budget support, AdventHealth Shawnee Mission provided $210,209 in free services for hundreds of patients from the Health Partnership Clinic.

The trained nurses at the NurseLine, formerly ASK-A-NURSE Resource Center, Call913-676-7777, are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Since 1986, the nurse and referral specialists have helped more than three million callers, providing health information, advice for medical concerns, physician referrals and class registrations. In 2009, NurseLine responded to 131,121 calls and e-mails from community members.

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission provides a variety of health education opportunities made available through the Center for Women’s Health, Life Dynamics, Parent Education and other health education programs offered by AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Educational programs are presented at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission and a variety of locations through the community.

The Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center serves approximately 150 children annually, from birth to age 6, who are developmentally disabled. No child is refused service for financial reasons. The Foundation develops partnerships with other organizations to help meet important community needs and raises money to help AdventHealth Shawnee Mission enhance its care to patients. In addition, support groups are provided for those inflicted with cancer, heart disease, or those who’ve lost a child at birth. While these services do not financially support the Medical Center’s operations, they impact the community significantly and help AdventHealth Shawnee Mission to achieve its fundamental mission of service to society.

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission provides the athletic training staff for area high schools and junior colleges during the school year and for summer activities. They also provide coverage for a number of community organizations involved with sports events.
