Biography

Derek Johnson, MD, FAAOS, is a board-certified physician specializing in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Johnson sees adults for joint and bone conditions like hip and knee pain, arthritis, meniscal tears, ACL tears, cartilage injuries and painful hip and knee replacement needing revision.

Dr. Johnson received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Michigan State University (MSU) College of Medicine and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at MSU’s Grand Rapids Research Center. He completed hip and knee replacement fellowship training at the Rocky Mountain Joint Replacement Fellowship. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology at Central Michigan University.

He’s a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA). He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS).

He’s a recipient of the John Insall Award for clinical research in knee replacement.

Outside of work, Dr. Johnson loves to spend time with his spouse and their four children. He coaches high school football and wrestling and enjoys watching his children participate in activities.

Dr. Johnson is committed to establishing long-term relationships with his patients while treating their hip and knee ailments. He aims to treat most issues conservatively and utilizes surgical management only when those conservative treatments fail. He strives to maintain a lifetime relationship with patients after joint replacement.
