When you’re dealing with an injury that’s caused lacerations, abrasions or pressure damage, you can rely on the team at AdventHealth Ottawa for expert care. We’ll quickly determine the best wound treatment plan for your specific needs, so you can start healing.

We’ll be at your side with the latest treatments available for wounds that don’t heal right away, including those that require surgery or other special care such as:

Diabetic ulcers
Reduced sensation from diabetic neuropathy can lead to injuries, often in the feet.

Pressure ulcers
Also called bed sores, pressure ulcers happen from prolonged pressure over a bony area.

Vascular ulcers
Vascular ulcers usually happen below the knee in people who have varicose veins, blood clots or swelling in their legs.

Wounds from skin cancers
Wounds that don’t heal with usual care can sometimes be a result of skin cancer.

Wounds related to radiation therapy
Radiation treatments for cancer can cause tissue changes that become wounds.

Expert Wound Treatments

Each wound requires expert, specific care. To promote proper wound healing, specialized pressure bandages, infection prevention and other treatments are the first line of care for most injuries.

For non- or slow-healing wounds, our wound-treatment specialists may also use one of more of these therapies:

  • Debridement to remove dead or inflamed tissue
  • Compression bandages or stockings to improve circulation and promote healing
  • Ultrasound therapy to warm tissue and improve healing
  • Vacuum-assisted closure to drain fluid from the wound through a thin tube
  • Skin grafts to treat large wounds that can’t be closed otherwise
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for concentrated oxygen to help your wounds heal
