The following 5th grade students from Garfield Elementary recently completed the Health Adventures Program sponsored by the Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. This program was started in the year 2000 with a break of two years when the hospital was under renovation in 2002-2004. We are completing our 15th year of partnering with Garfield Elementary for our Health Adventures program.

The students are shown in the picture during their interactive visit to the Surgery Department.

The Health Adventures Program is designed to provide the kids with a special opportunity to learn more about health care professions, the working of a hospital, potential job skills, and volunteerism.

Each student is paired with a Volunteer Mentor. They attended sessions once a month for four months beginning in January 2017. The following are the different departments they toured and learned about…Radiology, Lab, Gollier Rehabilitation Center, Respiratory Therapy, Surgery, Ambulance Service and Emergency Department.

At the end of the adventure, a celebration was held where the students were awarded a certificate of completion.

A big thank you goes out to the Volunteer Mentors…Carol Bauck, Melvin Bauck, Linda Clevenger, Claudia Gibson, Linda Jensen, Doreen Newby, Dean Royse, Cindy Schulz, Sylvia Starkey and Angeline Wootten. Sylvia Starkey has been a mentor since the program started.
