Childbirth Preparation Session Three 2023

A class covering pregnancy, labor, newborn care and breastfeeding.

Education is the key for a positive birth experience. Learn what you need to know for the best possible start to your baby’s life. There is no charge for this class. Participants should complete the class, if possible, 6 weeks before due date. Register early to guarantee a place in class. Since this is a free class, there is no charge for cancellation. We ask that you kindly notify us 48 hours in advance of the first class by calling Call785-229-8810 if you need to cancel for any reason.

2023 Dates and Times:

Five Week Evening Session | 7PM-9PM (This 5 Week Series INCLUDES Breastfeeding so you will not need to sign up for an additional class)

Session One: March 20, 27, April 3, 10 and 17

Session Two: July 10, 17, 24, 31 and August 7

Session Three: October 16, 23, 30, November 6 and 13

Breastfeeding Class | 7PM-9PM (For those who do not need the Childbirth Preparation or Newborn Care portions)

• Discomforts of pregnancy
• Terminology
• Warning Signs
• Prenatal exercises and body mechanics
• Signs of approaching labor and false vs. true labor
• Contractions
• Stages and phases of labor
• When to go to the hospital
• Film on childbirth
• Fetal heart monitor
• Pushing-positions and breathing
• Delivery of baby and placenta
• Tour of the FBP/Operating Room
• Cesarean Birth
• Postpartum
• Breathing and relaxation and labor rehearsal
• Sexuality / Contraception

Breastfeeding Will Cover:

• Importance of exclusive breastfeeding
• Non-pharmacologic pain relief methods for labor
• Early initiation of breastfeeding
• Early skin to skin contact
• Rooming in on a 24-hour basis
• Baby led feeding
• Frequency of feedings in relation to establishing a milk supply
• Continuation of breastfeeding after introduction of appropriate complementary foods

Newborn Care Will Cover:

• Characteristics of newborn
• Bathing
• Cord care
• Circumcision care
• Feeding cues
• Family life with baby
• S.I.D.S.
