A Message from Our Director

Welcome to the 12-month PGY2 Cardiology Residency at AdventHealth Orlando, formerly Florida Hospital Orlando.

Our primary mission is to provide quality pharmaceutical patient care. As part of multidisciplinary teams, we share the responsibility of monitoring responses to drug therapy and optimizing care to improve patient outcomes.  Residents who complete the Cardiology Pharmacy Residency Program at AdventHealth Orlando will develop the critical thinking skills necessary to provide specialized, patient-focused care and become confident, independent critical care specialists on the health care team.

Program Description

General information:

  • Positions available: 2 full-time, 12-month commitment
  • Estimated Annual Stipend: $52,800 + meeting travel support
  • 12 months immediate health insurance
  • 10 days paid vacation
  • Officer and Committee Involvement
  • 5 Project Days
  • Application Deadline: January 4, 2019

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctor of pharmacy degree
  • Completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency or equivalent experience
  • Possession of Eligibility for Florida licensure
  • Participant in the National Matching Services and PhORCAS

The following application materials must be submitted by the deadline: curriculum vitae, 3 letters of recommendation utilizing the PhORCAS template (1 from clinical pharmacist, 1 from Residency Program Director), transcripts from all colleges of pharmacy attended.

Learning experiences are of 5 weeks duration, and consist of core (required) learning experiences and three elective experiences.

Longitudinal Requirements

  • 1 medication use evaluation
  • 1 research project suitable for publication and presentation at a professional meeting
  • 4 journal clubs
  • 4 patient case presentations
  • 1 hour ACPE-accredited continuing education presentation
  • 1 published article within the quarterly resident newsletter
  • ACLS certification
  • Participation will also be expected in the following: Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee; Formulary Subcommittee; performance improvement projects; student, employee, and resident teaching; and Medication Safety Committee
  • Medication Event Review
  • Cardiovascular Transitions of Care
  • Cardiac Pharmacy Practice Experience

Meet our Current Residents

Prutha Lavani, PharmD
Dr. Prutha Lavani is originally from Cary, North Carolina and received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2017. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. Dr. Lavani’s professional interests include advanced heart failure, electrophysiology, and anticoagulation. Upon completion of her cardiology pharmacy residency, Dr. Lavani plans to pursue a clinical specialist position where she will hold both clinical and teaching responsibilities.

Jessica Phyu, PharmD
Dr. Jessica Phyu was born and raised in Bayside, New York. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Nova Southeastern University in 2013 and earned her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2017. Dr. Phyu completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tennessee. Upon completion of her PGY2 in Cardiology she will pursue board certification in cardiology and a career at an academic medical center to have opportunities for precepting and interdisciplinary teamwork. Her professional interests include heart failure, cardiac transplant, antithrombotics and pediatric cardiology.
