Whether you’re looking to relax your wrinkles, repair sun-damaged skin or treat chronic acne breakouts, you can expect top-of-the-line, whole-person care customized to your unique needs at our new medical spa center in Orlando, Serene Aesthetic Surgery and MedSpa.
Katelyn Hefner, an AdventHealth esthetician, and Barbie Padilla, an AdventHealth practice manager, share helpful insight about our new services.
What Is a Med Spa?
“The thing that differentiates a med spa from a traditional spa is that in addition to providing relaxing treatments, such as facials, a med spa is a place that provides medical-grade treatments such as neurotoxin injections, fillers, laser treatments and more,” shares Barbie.
“When I think of a traditional day spa, it’s usually a place where someone plans to spend hours lounging and enjoying amenities after a relaxing massage or facial,” shares Katelyn. “While our treatments at the med spa can still be relaxing, they are more clinical and results-driven. Since medical spas offer treatments such as Botox and microneedling, a medical director must oversee the results and the safety of these procedures. We have four amazing physicians on staff here at Serene Aesthetic Surgery and MedSpa.”

Things to Know Before Your Appointment
Before receiving any aesthetic treatment, your esthetician needs to learn about your skincare and aesthetic goals. “It’s helpful to keep a photo of your skincare products to show your esthetician when discussing your routine,” Katelyn explains. “This will help fill in the gaps in your routine or identify something that could be causing a problem for your skin.”
Skincare isn’t a one-size-fits-all type of treatment, so booking a consultation is important so the team can get to know you and your unique needs before you start treatments. “Just because your friend had a certain laser treatment, for example, doesn’t mean it’s the right one for you.“
She continues, “Your safety and health are our top priority, so we conduct a thorough consultation before you receive treatment. Some treatments may have contraindications, such as pregnancy, certain medications or underlying health conditions, so we review everything in detail before moving forward. Additionally, we educate our patients on potential side effects, downtime and aftercare instructions to ensure the best possible results with minimal risk.”
Caring for the Whole Person
“As part of AdventHealth, at Serene Aesthetic Surgery and MedSpa, we stand for whole-person care,” shares Barbie. “Our team is here to help you feel like your favorite version of yourself — in body, mind and spirit.”
“It’s extremely important to me that every patient who walks into Serene Aesthetic Surgery and MedSpa feels welcome and safe,” explains Katelyn. “Oftentimes, a personal care appointment is the only moment a person gets to pause and focus on themselves. That mental rest is just as important as the treatment itself. We’re not just here to provide aesthetic treatments — we're about whole-person care.”
