A Hydrafacial is one of the most talked-about treatments in modern skincare. This noninvasive procedure combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and hydration in a single session, making it a versatile option for a wide range of skin concerns.

Katelyn Hefner, a licensed esthetician at AdventHealth’s Serene Aesthetic Surgery and MedSpa, explains the science behind the treatment, how it can support long-term skin health and details to know before booking your first Hydrafacial.

What Is a Hydrafacial?

To understand what makes this treatment unique, it helps to understand the technology behind it. “A Hydrafacial uses patented vortex fusion technology and works as a vacuum to gently exfoliate and open pores, visibly extract dirt and debris and infuse targeted serums into the skin for the ultimate skin health experience,” Katelyn explains. “Unlike traditional facials, it’s performed via device rather than by hand, for more effective product absorption and longer-lasting results.”

Benefits of a Hydrafacial

One of the reasons Hydrafacial has gained so much popularity is the ability to deliver noticeable skin improvements without downtime. Additional benefits include:

  • Clears acne or congestion
  • Pigmentation correction
  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
  • Visibly brighter and more hydrated skin

Hydrafacial addresses multiple skin concerns in a single session, making it a go-to option for anyone looking to enhance their skin health and appearance, especially before a special event.

Hydrafacial Risks

“Hydrafacial treatments are designed for all skin types, skin tones and ages. Even the most sensitive skin can easily tolerate a Hydrafacial treatment,” Katelyn shares.

Like any cosmetic treatment, there are a few things to keep in mind.

A Hydrafacial should not be performed on patients who:

  • Are pregnant or nursing
  • Have a pacemaker or cardiac concerns
  • Have lymphedema
  • Received neurotoxin or filler injections within the last two weeks
  • Use isotretinoin (Accutane) for acne treatment

“Your skincare professional may choose specific treatment serums or customize the treatment for your unique skin conditions and needs,” Katelyn explains. This personalized approach ensures your skin receives exactly what it needs to look and feel its best.

What to Expect During a Hydrafacial Treatment

A Hydrafacial is a carefully designed process that combines cleansing, extraction and hydration for comprehensive skincare. “The three-step Hydrafacial process starts with a deep pore cleanse and chemical exfoliant to lift dead skin cells and unclog pores,” Katelyn explains. “The machine utilizes two tubes, one that dispenses the serum and one that suctions. Next, machine extractions are performed without discomfort, redness or harsh squeezing. The final step of the Hydrafacial infuses a hydrating, antioxidant-rich serum, leaving your skin smoother, brighter and glowing.”

She continues, “The smooth results and hydration may last five to seven days or even longer. One treatment per month is recommended for improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, brown spots, oily and congested skin. Continued Hydrafacial treatments are highly recommended to maintain skin health results.” By staying consistent with monthly sessions, you’ll keep your skin looking refreshed and feeling its best.
